Multi talented actor/filmmaker/writer/experimental musician James Franco has teamed up with art duo Brainard and Delia Carey to launch the Museum of Non-Visible Art, or MONA. True to its name, it is, yes, invisible! And for just US$25, those interested can purchase an imagined short film based on William Faulkners short story, Red Leaves. Yes, you read that right, imagined!
The opening statement on MONAs Kickstarter page reads:
The Non-Visible Museum is an extravaganza of imagination, a museum that reminds us that we live in two worlds: the physical world of sight and the non-visible world of thought. Composed entirely of ideas, the Non-Visible Museum redefines the concept of what is real. Although the artworks themselves are not visible, the descriptions open our eyes to a parallel world built of images and words. This world is not visible, but it is real, perhaps more real, in many ways, than the world of matter, and it is also for sale.
There is also a clear reminder at the end of the page that customers will not receive anything visible! They will only receive a title card with a description of a piece of art and a letter of authentication.
And so far, in total, people have paid US$11,858 for something that isnt there.
